A Slightly Different "Black Hole Sun"

Some covers work. Some don't. It's worse when changing genres and styles of instruments, as the arrangement needs to be redone with an ear to what made the original work in it's genre, the soul of the song itself, and how that works in the genre being moved to. Some do it better than others. Some songs just don't work across genres, or need some major revisions to "work" in the new genre.

One group that to my ear has more hits than misses in this translation is Postmodern Jukebox in selection of songs that will work and selection. Nevertheless, the ones that work certainly do.

This is a very interesting take on "Black Hole Sun" by Postmodern Jukebox.

Also, "Blurred Lines."

  1. There is an outfit called HAYSEED DIXIE that does bluegrass covers of old-school rock and metal songs. Like you said, some work, others don't. This one is pretty good:
